All About Android 5.0 Lollipop

Recently, Google unveiled the latest Android operating system called Lollipop. The new platform is currently available as an over-the-air download option on compatible gadgets and will be released as a standard feature in new Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 phones and devices

Lollipop — otherwise known as Android 5.0 — understandably boasts a wealth of new features. Let’s take a look at how you can benefit.

What to Expect With Lollipop

Lollipop provides new benefits to app designers and end-users, including:

  • An improved user experience — According to the product’s official blog, improving the overall design of the platform was one of the central goals of this upgrade. They included more attractive color schemes and typography as well as a more fluid and interactive touchscreen experience. The touchscreen is also seamless as you migrate across devices.
  • Battery saving mode — Rather than searching aimlessly for tips on how to get the most juice out of your device, Lollipop takes care of it for you with its battery saving mode. Lollipop extended the battery life on the Nexus 5 by 36 percent during initial trials.
  • Smoother notifications — In the past, when you were engaged with a task on your Android device and someone gave you a call, the call’s notification occupied your entire screen. Lollipop changes this and provides users with small banner notifications instead. You’ll also be able to change your settings for which apps are permitted to interrupt you.
  • Multiple accounts — Maybe you live with a roommate and wouldn’t mind if she uses your tablet, but you don’t want her to browse through your private data. Lollipop allows you to create multiple accounts per device, so your privacy remains intact should you decide to let other people use your device. You can set up standard accounts, temporary guest accounts and profile accounts that can be restricted. This means you can configure the device exactly as you see fit.
