Google Pixel 3 Rumors and Leaks

By September 18, 2018September 25th, 2018No Comments

It’s not an overstatement that the upcoming release of the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL will be one of the most talked-about smartphone events of 2018. And with online Pixel 3 leaks and rumors abounding, we thought it might be useful to gather what we know about the Pixel 3 so far.

Read on to see Google Pixel 3 news about everything from Google’s new flagship phone’s possible release date to the hotly debated ‘notch’ issue surrounding its front display.

It’s Time to Take Google Seriously

Whether you realize it or not, since Google released its first Pixel back in 2016, this powerhouse of a search engine company has been working overtime to get you to take it seriously as a smartphone maker. As the Pixel 3 release date approaches, a great deal of tech and design savviness is about to come to fruition.

If History Can Be Trusted…

To best predict when the actual release of the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL will occur, it helps to know your Google history. In 2016, at Made By Google, it was announced that the first Pixel would soon be released, and it was on the second-to-last Thursday in October.

Jump ahead to 2017, and Google again used its Made By Google event to announce the release of the Pixel 2 series, which then came out on October 19th — you guessed it, the second-to-last Thursday of the month. So if history is to be trusted, in October of 2018, we should hear about the Pixel 3’s release on October 4th and most likely see it come out on the 18th.

Update: The Pixel 3 is confirmed to launch on October 9, 2018 at a price of about $649 according to TechRadar.

The Camera Controversy

There are a lot of rumors and theories floating around about how many cameras we’ll find — both on the front and back of the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL.

To be clear, nothing has been confirmed by Google, but a leaked image of what’s touted to be a Pixel 3 XL phone case shows only rear cutouts for one flash and one camera, as well as a fingerprint sensor. But with all the work Google has been putting into its camera design, this change shouldn’t come as a shock or surprise, and Google’s reign as the manufacturer of the best Android camera on the market looks unchallenged.

Additionally, after reviewing what the majority of tech insiders are saying, it seems most likely that the Pixel 3 XL will feature two cameras set in a small notch — reminiscent of the iPhone X — on its front-facing edge-to-edge display.

Running on Android 9.0 Pie

This third version of the Pixel will be the first phone to run on Google’s newest operating system straight out of the box, Android Pie. Having launched in August of 2018 for the Pixel 2, we now know what exactly this new Android OS brings to the table when the Pixel 3 launches.

Key Features include:

  • An increased focus on Artificial Intelligence, making the next Pixel (and your Pixel 2) smarter than ever with the ability to predict what you want to do based on previous usage information.
  • Navigation Improvements with more support for gestures.
  • More Notification Information and Improvements to the Lock Screen
  • Improved Android Security like the new Lockdown option which disables all unlock options aside from your chosen password or unlock pattern.
